Flip the first card →PTCB Practice That Matches the 2026 PTCE
The Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam has 90 multiple-choice questions. Eighty are scored and ten are unscored, and the unscored ones are mixed in without labels, so every question counts in practice. You get 1 hour and 50 minutes. The passing scaled score is 1,400 on a scale from 1,000 to 1,600.
PTCB's content outline effective January 6, 2026 splits the exam into four knowledge domains. RxDrills uses the same split for its practice questions, so your practice score tells you which domain needs work:
| Knowledge domain | Share of the PTCE | Free questions |
|---|---|---|
| Medications | 35% | 7 |
| Federal Requirements | 18.75% | 4 |
| Patient Safety and Quality Assurance | 23.75% | 5 |
| Order Entry and Processing | 22.50% | 4 |

Pharmacy Math Practice That Never Runs Out
PTCB marks several areas of the outline as calculation-based, from strengths and doses to days supply, concentrations and dilutions. A worksheet runs out after twenty problems. Our generator writes a new problem every time you click, checks your answer and shows each step of the solution. Pick one type, such as alligation or IV drip rates, and drill it until it feels easy, or mix all thirteen types the way the exam does.
Every problem uses the conventions pharmacy students learn: 1 kg = 2.2 lb, 1 teaspoon = 5 mL, 1 tablespoon = 15 mL, percent strength as grams per 100 mL. If you want the formulas on one page, see pharmacy math formulas with worked examples.
Learn the Top Drugs: Brand, Generic and Class
Medications is the largest domain on the PTCE, and its first area is generic names, brand names and classifications. Flashcards are the fastest way to learn them. Each RxDrills card shows the brand name on the front. On the back you get the generic name, the drug class, what it is commonly used for and, for controlled substances, the DEA schedule. You can flip the deck to practice generic-to-brand as well.
Every card links to the FDA label on DailyMed and to the drug's RxNorm record, so you can check the fact yourself. Browse the full top drugs list with brand, generic and class.
How a Practice Session Works
- Pick a mode. The practice test, one type of math problem, or the drug flashcards. Each one starts with a single click.
- Answer before you look. Choose an option, type a number or say the generic name out loud before you flip the card.
- Read the explanation. Right or wrong, you see why, and for calculations every step of the solution. The source link is right there if you want the full FDA label or the regulation.
- Repeat what you missed. Mark a card “Again” and it comes back at the end of the deck. Switch the math drill to the type you got wrong and do five more.
Who It's For
RxDrills is for anyone preparing for the PTCE: students finishing a PTCB-Recognized Education/Training Program, working technicians qualifying through PTCB's 500-hour work experience pathway, and anyone getting ready for a retake. If you already know the material, the practice test shows you quickly which domain still needs work. If you are just starting, the flashcards and math drills build the foundation one small session at a time.
Why Hands-On Practice Beats Rereading Your Notes
On exam day you have to pull an answer out of memory under time pressure. Rereading a study guide feels productive, but it never asks you to do that. Answering a question does. When you get one wrong, the explanation shows you what you missed while the question is still in front of you, and the next attempt goes better.
That is why RxDrills is built around doing, not reading: answer a question, solve a calculation, flip a card. Short explanations follow each answer, and you never have to watch a video to get to the next question.
Built for Busy Pharmacy Technician Students
Most people preparing for the PTCB exam are working, in a training program or both. RxDrills works on your phone and needs no installation, and a useful session takes ten minutes: ten math problems on the bus, a round of flashcards on a break, the practice test in the evening. There is nothing to download and no account to create before you start.
Every Answer Has a Source
A practice tool is only useful if it is right. Drug names and classes in RxDrills are checked against FDA drug labels on DailyMed, the National Library of Medicine's RxNorm and FDA's established pharmacologic classes. Questions about federal law cite the Code of Federal Regulations, title 21. Patient safety questions cite FDA and The Joint Commission. The source is linked under every answer. If you think something is wrong, email hello@rxdrills.com and we will check it against the source.
